Mind, Body, Emotions, Spirit
The components of mind, emotions, body and spirit work together, not separately. They're interrelated processes that form us as human beings.
Growing up in a violent, abusive, abandoning environment affects every aspect of a person’s mental, emotional, physical and spiritual life. In our model, abandonment includes not only instances where caregivers leave the family, but emotional (and psychological) abandonment such as growing up with addicted parents (alcohol, drugs, gambling, etc.), being verbally abused, witnessing fighting between parents, sexual abuse, spiritual abuse, and poverty. All forms of violence, abuse and abandonment create an environment where children grow up feeling unloved, uncared for, and of little or no value or worth. This in turn has an effect on every aspect of that person’s life in some of the following ways:
Mind: People learn that they are not safe, that they need to be on guard and protect themselves in order to survive. This alters their perception and cognition, distorting their ability to understand themselves, their relationships, and other people and situations.
Body: People often neglect the physical aspect of their lives and are sick often, have weight issues, are frequently exhausted, do not exercise, have problems with sleep and bedtime.
Emotions: People are forced to block, suppress or deny their feelings and create many unhealthy self defense mechanisms to do so. Your feelings are a direct reflection of you. If you deny your feelings, you deny yourself.
Spirit: People do not learn what their morals, values, ethics and beliefs are, so they are unable to match what they say with what they do, which creates alot of anxiety.
As we work together to bring balance to all 4 of these aspects of a person's life, people find that their anxiety decreases quickly, they think more clearly, and they quickly see consistency between what they say and what they do.
The process of healing that we use in therapy involves
• Acknowledge that there is an issue
• Discuss your thoughts and feelings about the issue, which helps you to
• Understand why you think the way you do, which leads you to
• Resolve/Heal the pain that has been weighing you down and holding you back
